Aadhar has become that social security number which needs to be linked to all kinds of transactions or IDs or other government verification avenues. Getting your Aadhar linked to all these would be wise and convenient. Not sure if getting Aadhar linked is a fair and smart move from the governance perspective. Since getting fake aadhar cards are not a difficult ordeal. Given the kind of importance they are gaining, a little thought about linking everything to Aadhar should be rethought.

According to the department of Income Tax, income tax returns can easily be e-filed without any glitches even if the Aadhar card and PAN were not linked. However, that notification had a deadline which was until 5th Aust 2017. The deadline to link your PAN card with the Aadhar was 31st August 2017. Hopefully, you are meeting the deadlines.  Also an important note- you can obviously file your income tax returns without linking the Pan to your Aadhar card. The catch here is that tax department will not process the tax returns until and unless these two are linked.

To avoid any confusion or complications in the future, people should visit the official e-filing website of the income tax department. Linking these two different ID proofs is fairly simple. In both the cases, these two IDs should be having identical names in the two different databases. Hopefully, these two IDs do not encounter any kind of minor mismatch.

The government has also taken steps on its own part and has made the process of linking these two IDs fairly easier. There is a step process that one must follow :

The Income Tax Department has made it easy for taxpayers to link their PAN with Aadhaar with just a 2 step process which does not even required to login or register at the e- filing website.
